The listening standards is a research project under the initiative between the British Council Rwanda and Rwanda Development Board (REB) with the aim to set listening standards in the teaching of English language in Rwandan Education. Under the supervision of the British Council, the Association of Teachers of English in Rwanda (ATER), as a professional association, was integrated in the research process. The association has cooperated with British Council in the implementation of the project by providing researchers in the area of English language development and improvement in Rwandan education.
